Renate has a background in Holistic Health that reaches back to her late teens. She studied at a full-time Holistic School in Germany right out of high school and graduated in 1969. She then immigrated to the USA and used the Massage Therapy portion of her training as her vocation here in the USA. Over a twenty year time period, she conservatively estimates to have given 10.000 massage sessions.
This work provided her with deep, personal insight into the human dilemma, and she realized that there were underlying emotional issues causing the tensions and pains that her clients came to see her for.
1992 Renate purchased Health Choices, a holistic Massage School that she and her colleges developed into one of the finest Holistic Massage Schools on the east coast. Health Choices Institute and Holistic Massage School graduates are known for their excellent, comprehensive work that includes a Body-Mind-Spirit approach. Renate was the owner and director of this Department of Education approved vocational school for 18 years. The school closed its doors in 2009 with the economic downturn.
While running her Holistic Massage school that also housed other professional programs like 'Hakomi', 'Unergi' and Somatic Processing work, she studied 'Hakomi' and got certified as a Hakomi Practitioner in 2009. Renate has her private practice in Princeton, NJ. Her assistant role in the two year Hakomi trainings serves her to continuously refine her work. She focuses on helping her clients reach expanded Self-Awareness through Self-Study. She assists her clients in processing energy blocks through body awareness, allowing the Essential Self to emerge and become the seat of life experience.
The Hakomi Method of Experiential Psychotherapy was first created in the late 1970’s by the internationally renowned therapist and author, Ron Kurtz. In 1981, to fully develop the method and promote the teaching of Hakomi, Ron and a core group of therapists and educators founded the Hakomi Institute. Today, Hakomi Trainings and workshops are presented throughout the world, in North America, Europe, Japan, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.
Integrating scientific, psychological, and spiritual sources, Hakomi has evolved into a complex and elegant form of psychotherapy that is highly effective with a wide range of populations. The method draws from general systems theory and modern body-centered therapies including Gestalt, Psychomotor, Feldenkrais, Focusing, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Neurolinguistic Programming, and the work of Wilhelm Reich and Alexander Lowen. Core concepts of gentleness, nonviolence, compassion, and mindfulness evolved from Buddhism and Taoism.
Hakomi is a Body Centered Therapy that assists clients in recovering their innate authentic self by becoming mindful and self aware. In the field of loving presence, safety and mindfulness held by the practitioner, the client can study body sensations, feelings, thoughts and memories and understand their meaning.
HAKOMI therefore helps resolve inner confusion and conflict, helping the client find the path to a purposeful and illuminated life.
As a Personal Growth Facilitator, Renate Novak uses the accumulation of all life and work experience. This includes her work as a Certified Hakomi Therapist. The goal is to bring about the powerful shifts and changes that an individual desires.

If a person has the desire to live a more expansive and satisfying life, Renate Novak will facilitate this through mindful self-study, the discovery of unconscious limiting beliefs, habitual thoughts, and body memory patterns that have confined the individual to living a familiar and repetitive life. In transcending the conditioning of the past it is possible to create a future that includes vibrant well-being, a sense of freedom, healthy relationships, and work that is aligned with the true nature of SELF.
